The Scars of the Strong: The Trust of Professional Boxer Joana Nwamerue

Some meetings start out as work. Some very quickly become something much more.

My meeting with Joana Nwamerue was exactly that.

Joana is a professional boxer – a woman whose life is built on discipline, strength, fights, victories, and countless hours of work. A woman who knows what it means to fall, to get back up, and to keep moving forward.

And on her body, there are scars.

Scars that carry their own story.

When you work with scars, you very quickly understand that in front of you there is never simply skin to be treated.

In front of you stands a person.

And behind every scar there's a moment. Sometimes pain. Sometimes surgery. Sometimes trauma. Sometimes a period of life a person would like to leave behind.

That's why, for me, the most important moment wasn't the fact that a professional athlete stood in front of me.

The most important thing was that Joana trusted me.

She entrusted me with her scars.

And for a specialist who has chosen to work in such a delicate field, that trust means an enormous amount.

Strength doesn't mean having no scars

We often associate a strong person with the idea that nothing can hurt them.

But over the years, my work has taught me something different.

Strong people have scars too.

Sometimes physical. Sometimes invisible.

The difference is that they keep moving forward together with them.

And maybe that's exactly why my meeting with Joana touched me so deeply.

In front of me stood a woman who steps into the ring and fights. A woman who has turned discipline and consistency into a way of life.

And despite that strength, she let me get close to a very personal part of her story.

That's a huge responsibility.

To me, a scar is never simply an imperfection

I don't believe we should be ashamed of our scars.

I don't believe we have to erase them at all costs, either.

I believe in choice.

If a person accepts their scar, it's part of them and part of their story.

But if that scar keeps pulling them back to an unpleasant moment, if it troubles them, or if they simply wish to improve how their skin looks, then my job is to show them what the real possibilities are.

No promises of miracles.

No promises of "erasing."

With respect for the skin, and for the story behind it.

That's exactly how I approach Joana's scars too – individually, carefully, and with a clear understanding that working with scars is a process.

Two different professions. One and the same philosophy.

As we talked, I realized how much her world and mine have in common.

In the ring, the result doesn't come after a single training session.

In scar work, it doesn't either.

Discipline is needed. Patience is needed. Consistency is needed.

And above all – trust in the process is needed.

Maybe that's why this meeting will stay special to me.

Because this time, scars brought together two completely different professions.

One teaches you how to fight. The other – how to work with what battles sometimes leave behind.

Thank you for your trust, Joana

In my profession, there are moments that aren't measured by the number of procedures, "before and after" photos, or social media posts.

They're measured by one simple thing:

"I trust you."

And that's the greatest value there is for me.

Thank you, Joana Nwamerue, for allowing me to be part of this story.

There's work ahead of us.

There's a process ahead of us.

And I believe there will be something to tell afterward.

But today I want to leave just one message:

Scars don't make us less beautiful. They don't make us less feminine. And they certainly don't make us weaker.

Sometimes they simply show how much we've been through.

And sometimes the moment comes when we decide to take care of them, too.

Because behind every scar stands a story. And behind every story stands a person.
